December Journal Club Meeting

The next topic covers the old favourite, the Trendelenburg position. You won’t want to be caught laying down for this one!

Presenter: Ryley Bennett

In this meeting, we will survey the available literature on the effectiveness of the Trendelenburg position for managing hypotension in the emergency care setting. The articles we will be going over are below (Note, unfortunately many of these articles will need to be accessed through an institutional (University / College / AHS / Covenant Health) library. Let me know if you have any access issues!):

a) Bridges and Jarquin-Valdivia. 2005. “Use of the Trendelenburg Position as the Resuscitation Position: to T or not to T?” American Journal of Critical Care 14:364-368 (doi: 10.4037/ajcc2005.14.5.364)

b) Sibbald et al. 1979. The Trendelenburg Position: Hemodynamic Effects in Hypotensive and Normotensive Patients. Critical Care Medicine 7(5):218-224

c) Makic et al. 2011. “Evidence-Based Practice Habits: Putting More Sacred Cows Out to Pasture.” Critical Care Nurse 31(2):38-62

d) Johnson and Henderson. 2003. “Myth: The Trendelenburg Position Improves Circulation in Cases of Shock.” Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine 6(1):48-49 (doi: 10.1017/S1481803500008915)

Zoom invites will be emailed to our mailing lists a few days prior to the event.
