Whether you work in the Emergency Department, on the ambulance, or with a Search and Rescue team, the Bow Valley Emergency Care Journal Club invites you to join us each month to review new literature in our fields.

How to Access Articles:

If the presenters will be reviewing open access articles:

A link to the article will be sent out with the meeting invite, and the link will also be posted on the meeting information page. If you have any issues accessing it, let us know!

If the articles are not open access:

Unfortunately, many publishers restrict public access to academic literature. However, there are several ways to access the articles without paying out of pocket:

1. If you are a student at a university, or college, your library likely has access to the articles, as most large institutions are subscribed to many journals and databases. Search for the article’s title on your library website, then login using your credentials at the institution to download the paper

2. If you are not a student, but work for a large health provider (Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health…), these institutions also have a library services team who can get you access to the articles. If you work in Alberta, checkout these links to access your teams library:

   Alberta Health Services Library: Insite —> Teams —> Human Resources —> Learning —> MyLearningLink —> Look in the box called “Related Links” —> Knowledge Resource Service (Libraries)

   Covenant Health Library: Compassionnet —> Employee Centre —> Tools and Resources —> Library Services

3. If you don’t fit into any of the above, try emailing the articles author (their email address will almost always be posted with the abstract). Many authors will just send you the manuscript for personal use, which this qualifies as.
